Beyond Tolerance: Belonging

The election has stirred up a lot for a lot of us.

If we have been paying attention, we are aware of the great divides not just politically, but also very much politically.

As founder and president of Living Wisdom, I feel it is important to share where we come from as leadership in service to healing with transparency.

Our mission is to create safe and sacred spaces for our diverse community to learn, heal, and grow together.

That means that regardless of how you vote, eat, dress, love, identify, etc, as long as your intention is to learn (be curious instead of dogmatic), heal (be humble and open to receiving help from everything that is greater than you that wishes you well), and grow (expanding your consciousness, wisdom, experience,  and capacity for joy and wellbeing), and you respect the safe and sacred space and those around you, YOU ARE WELCOME.

To provide the safe and sacred space, we focus on exploring how we connect, what we have in common, how we can bring our authentic selves (below the surface of party identification or any other “identification”) to share our prayers and hear the prayers of our fellow humans.

Before I was ever on the Medicine Path as a facilitator, I saw myself as an ambassador of prayer.

I have seen the profound healing power of prayer. Not just the magic and miracles that can happen when we open ourselves up and invoke the help of something greater than us that wishes us well, but the absolute and consistently positive impact of praying out loud with humility, vulnerability, and authenticity amongst sacred witnesses who are also asking for help and speaking from the heart, beneath the layers that can create so much judgment, disconnect, and harm.

As someone who has experienced miraculous answers to prayers, and studied counseling psychology, consciousness, the subconscious, and all things to do with the human mind, mindfulness, and spirit for over 40 years, I have learned that when we are in a safe and sacred container, and we share what we are grateful for, and ask for help with the things we are struggling with, profound things can happen. The unimaginable happens. Miracles happen.

I could go on and on about the unified field of consciousness, sacred witnesses, and the science behind opening ourselves up, mentally, to something beyond our current cognitive limitations, but what is most important is that I’ve seen prayer in community provide a sense of CONNECTION, UNDERSTANDING, LEARNING, HEALING & GROWING TOGETHER. I have been a witness to observable results for over half a century, with or without ingesting plants or other substances.

That is the most sacred and important medicine right now in my opinion.

We need each other. We need everyone. We need diversity, We need to disagree, We need to be able to love, respect, and welcome regardless of those disagreements.

I have been the outcast. The uninvited, the unwanted. I have been the one whose voice was shut down, and asked to leave. I have only ever been loving, wanted to serve, and been curious to understand when things didn’t make sense.

Being able to find a place where you can be your authentic self, be valued, feel safe, feel respected, and able to be vulnerable, different, and belong is a rare thing and seems to be getting rarer.

For me, it is the heart of my life’s purpose to provide as many spaces and experiences for those who want to mend the gaps to meet and recognize all that we have in common, and cultivate loving kindness together.

Living Wisdom has welcomed Buddhists, Atheists, Christians (of all denominations, including my Mormon Mama), Hindus, Muslims, Pacific Islanders, Europeans, Africans, South Americans, Central Americans, North Americans, Veterans, disabled folks, a full spectrum of LGBTQ+ (even before there were terms and pronouns to talk about the varieties), from 10 years old to my Mama just before her 90th birthday, and we consistently hear what a great healing relief it is to be in a place where everyone belongs, but no one has to look, think, or act like anyone else.

If you haven’t yet joined one of our gatherings, but feel the call to welcome and be welcomed by a diverse community choosing to learn, heal, and grow together, please check us out. We have free, by donation, and other accessible ways to gather with like-hearted folks, and all who come in a good way are welcome.
